Caliente Salsa and Bachata Student Spotlight - Anne

This week, let us introduce to you one of our Salsa and Bachata dancer! This dance baby is also in our Improver Performance Team and Lady Styling family šŸ‘ø

Meet Anne šŸ˜

How did you get into learning Salsa and Bachata in Singapore?

Pure chance! All it took was a click on Instagram šŸ˜‚

Salsa and bachata were both foreign to me. Back home, salsa would be akin to a tortilla dip, and bachata - well, I didn't even know what it was. Lol. This was until a close friend of mine from Uni shared to us her experience from joining Salsa social dances. She mentioned how fun and therapeutic it was and so I became interested. Unfortunately though, I never had the chance to join her before I moved to SG.

Fast forward to late last year, I was supposed to book a pole dance class with my colleague when I stumbled upon Caliente Dance Studio's post on trial dance classes. Since I've always wanted to try social dancing, I immediately booked for a dance class. When I showed up at the trial class, it was love at first step! šŸ˜ Now I know, there's more to Salsa than a tortilla dip.

What is your favorite dance class and why?

I love all my Bachata classes - partner, lady styling and performance. And that says a lot about the amazing team of Caliente Dance Studio teachers because I can't choose one!šŸ™ˆ

Partner classes because you get to dance with someone (yay!) and really mingle with other people. The teachers also make it a fun and comfortable learning environment for all.

I absolutely also adore Lady Styling classes. It could be such a handful (pun intended) at times. But with practice, all those body rolls and hair flicks would be beautiful to watch - something one can apply even for Partner dances.

Lastly, Performance Team: learning a choreo as a team, putting on a nice costume and dancing outdoors - need I say more? ;)

What do you enjoy the most about dancing Salsa and Bachata?

Being in a typical 9 to 6 job, dancing has been a great catharsis for me to escape the mundane. I would always look forward to my classes after work because it helps me to unwind. It had also provided me with a creative and sociable way to work out. Bonus: gaining new drinking buddies...I mean, friends -from dancing in Caliente!šŸ¤

What reasons will you give to someone to start learning how to dance Salsa and Bachata?

Dance for F-U-N:

F - Fitness: Dancing is such a nice way to stay fit because it improves the physical and mental health for people of all ages, shapes and sizes. The increased level of physical activity and exercise offers a lot of benefits for your immunity. And because the body releases happy hormones while dancing, your temperament also improves, so itā€™s a win-win situation all the way around.

U - Upgrade: You upgrade yourself when you learn a new dance, just like learning any other skill. There's always this sense of accomplishment whenever you level up in the courses or be able to do a challenging move. In this sense, it also helps to gain self confidence.

N - Network: I love how dancing brings people of different backgrounds together. This gives you an opportunity to increase your network and gain new friends. I feel blessed to have found friends from Caliente who I can regularly go to socials practica with or even for cool activities outside of dancing.

In short, dance for F-U-N! And certainly because it's fun ;)

Which Salsa or Bachata song do you like the most?

Propuesta Indecente by Romeo Santos, for sure. It's my classic favorite bachata song.ā¤ļø Animals by Alex & Sierra is a close second!

For Salsa, I like 5 Minutos by Ivan Venot & Toni Velardi.

Thank you for sharing your salsa and bachata dance passion with us!
