Caliente Salsa and Bachata Student Spotlight - Lucia

Today, let us introduce to you one of our Salsa and Bachata social dancer šŸ˜ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„

Meet Lucia!

Tell us a little about yourself!

I am from Galicia, Spain! I relocated to Singapore 3 years ago and I absolutely love it. I am the loud friend (guess it comes with being Spanish?) and people use my laughter to find me in a crowded place. I am a data nerd and work to empower women.

How did you get into learning Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk dance in Singapore?

I actually did a trial class after 6 months of arriving to Singapore since it seemed to be very popular here! However, at the time, I was learning Muay Thai and I did not want to overwhelm my schedule. Around 6 months ago (coincidence!!?), a friend that has been dancing for a long time took me to a social dance and I fell in love with it. I have always enjoyed the music so much, so giving it another try came naturally.

What is your favourite dance class and why?

Though I started liking Bachata more as I felt it was easier for me to learn, I have found myself loving Salsa Level 3. Not gonna lie, I did get dizzy in the first levels, but once you get the hold of it (thanks Chloe for the turning tipsā€¦), it is amazing to be able to perform more complex steps. Plus, I love me a fast paced song.

What do you enjoy the most about dancing Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk?

I love the music and have always listened to it, especially growing up. But my family was not the dancing type so I never considered actually learning how to do it, choosing instead to just sway to the music with my own steps. It feels great to be able to dance with anybody in the world - I like that it is a language of its own, and you donā€™t even need to speak! Just hold a hand, and go.

What reasons will you give to someone to start learning how to dance Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk?

It is a great way to meet people - it is a very wholesome community that has brought a lot of joy to my life. You will always have a good time. You can literally do it anywhere and donā€™t need a partner - it is an activity that you can definitely do solo. Not sure what to do on a Saturday night? A social is always a great idea :)

Which Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk song do you like the most?

My all time favourite Salsa song: Oscar D'LeĆ³n - LlorarĆ”s
