Meet Valerie 👑

How did you get into learning Salsa and Bachata in Singapore?

My impression of Salsa and Bachata has always been very passionate and vibrant. The music has always reminded me of warm Cuban/Puerto Rican summer evenings, with the ladies in passionate red dresses spinning, bright confident smiles and shaking ‘dem god-given hips.

With the recent COVID restrictions and inability to travel out of Singapore, attending for Salsa class has really given me this little window of fresh air to experience a new culture and get in touch with expressing myself through dance. Watching Salsa and Bachata dancers always get me fired up with the passion oozing out the dancers every step they take. Salsa and Bachata would be the human version of a “mating dance”, like how beautiful colourful birds would do in the wild.

I have always been shyer than I would like to be with my body. That’s why I wanted to try out Salsa and Bachata to gain more confidence and to get in touch with expressing my femininity.

What is your favorite dance class and why?

I am currently moving on to the 2nd level of Salsa solo classes. After being exposed to the steps from the trial solo salsa class, I was hooked. I have really enjoyed all the classes and the encouraging teachers from Caliente.

Janey is a great teacher, as students we can really feel her passion for spreading the love for Salsa as well as her precision in her dance moves. I really enjoy myself vibing together with the music and the dance steps. When I feel more confident with my Salsa moves, I would like to try Bachata too.

What do you enjoy the most about dancing Salsa and Bachata?

Feeling one with the music, body in sync with the beat, feeling sexy and confident.

What reasons will you give to someone to start learning how to dance Salsa and Bachata?

Don’t waste time feeling shy or unconfident of yourself, throw away those worries away. It’s time to get up and dance!
