Caliente Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, Zouk Student Spotlight - Terence

Today, let us introduce to you one of our Salsa, Bachata partner social dance studentšŸ„°ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„

Meet Terence!

Tell us a little about yourself!

Hello I'm Terence. I've always enjoyed singing and dancing. I joined the school choir since my secondary school days until university, and was hitting the clubs with my NS camp buddies. Having a good time is in my blood, as well as staying physically active.

How did you get into learning Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk dance in Singapore?

Before covid struck, I was already enjoying dance fitness classes at a gym. Fast forward 2-3 months ago, the Caliente Dance Studio profile on Facebook caught my interest, and I decided to try a Salsa trial class followed by the Caliente Latin Sunset pool party the next day (I know, such a coincidence right). Both dance events were really enjoyable, and I realized that the personal benefits of learning how to social dance were multi-fold much like Taekwondo which I learned when I was younger. Hence the decision to try master a new sport and hobby.

What is your favourite dance class and why?

Salsa and Bachata partner dance classes, because both are equally challenging. Just keep repeating the dance classes and one will "git gud" eventually!

What do you enjoy the most about dancing Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk?

The challenge aspect, and the feeling of personal satisfaction and achievement when I am able to execute a particular move-set well enough to get over "beginner hell" especially during social dance nights.

What reasons will you give to someone to start learning how to dance Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk?

Firstly, it improves mental fitness and body-kinesthetic intelligence because memory, coordination and cardiovascular fitness is required. Secondly, the social and networking benefits are considerable, therefore mood, career and personal opportunities are boosted as well. It is definitely not a one-man show (pun-intended) when the music is on!

Which Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba and/or Zouk song do you like the most?

Normally we dance to whatever is being played during social dance parties and dance classes. Does mainstream "Despacito" count? :D
