This week, let us introduce to you one of our Salsa and Modern Bachata solo shines dancer!
Meet the pretty Esther! š
How did you get into learning Salsa and Bachata in Singapore?
Iāve been taking salsa classes on and off for the past 2 years, as well as learning bits of Spanish purely for the love of it! I love Latin music and in fact itās my music of choice even when Iām working out.
I think itās the inherent passion that I sense in the dance that always drew me right in the beginning, and then learning how to move my body to the rhythm of the music. Thereās something so sensual and beautiful about the dance that makes me appreciate it and how it makes me feel about myself, a sense of confidence and empowerment.
What is your favorite dance class so far and why?
I just started learning Bachata at the Caliente Dance Studio after seeing the ad on Facebook; my friend and I came down for the trial class and signed up on the spot! Iām really enjoying the Solo Bachata class that Iām in the middle of right now, just learning the basics and really honing them in.
I remember how in my last class I kept getting one of the steps wrong and the instructor Janey came over to me and showed me the steps even though sheād been doing them over and over; I really appreciate her patience and also humor in the way she teaches, as someone who teaches and coaches myself I know communicating what you know can be a challenge, but she does it with ease and fun.
What do you enjoy the most from Dancing?
Iāve never thought of myself as a great dancer to be honest! But of course that doesnāt stop me from dancing and learning š Dancing has taught me to appreciate my body and what itās capable of, dancing has taught me how to be more graceful, and dancing with a partner has taught me how to allow myself to be led and to connect without words.
I honestly feel that dancing is an expression of life, of movement and of creativity.
What reasons would you give to someone to start learning Dancing?
Not to āthinkā about it and just start! We are diverse beings and we thrive on variety. Dance encourages greater levels of creativity and spontaneity, which translates to all areas of life.
Anyone can dance, and anyone can learn to dance, there are no barriers or boundaries. As much as dance enhances creativity it also teaches discipline, to stay in step and move with the rhythm of the music. And as long as your heart beats, you have rhythm!
What Salsa or Bachata song do you like the most?
My favourite Bachata song is āSeƱorita; by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello š
